We leave Porto with Nick and Irene on the early morning train heading north to one of our favorite spots up the coast – Vila de Praia de Ancora. We are booked into the same hostel where we stayed a few weeks back, and we’ll stay here for the remaining 4 nights of Nick and Irene’s holiday. We thought this was a great place to hang out and use as a base for day trips.
Of course, we’ve secured the two front bedrooms with the small balcony overlooking the beach – what a great spot!
Our first evening out, we find a small restaurant and they serve up a fish stew for 2…. OMG! It arrived in a cauldron and could have fed a family of 8 I’m sure!! Nick and Irene were also impressed with their meals.
Over the next few days we retrace our Camino steps with our friends. First we visit Valencia and Tui. For those of you who are following our blog you may recall that we walked through both these towns on our Camino trip. This time however we enjoyed a full day and saw a lot more of both towns than we had on our first visit.
On another one of our day trips, we take the train to visit Viana do Costello, another of our favorite towns, but it’s also Sinclair’s birthday so after we walk up the 700 or so steps to the Church of Santa Luzia, we find an Indian restaurant to celebrate!
I know we’ve mentioned the Bacalhau (salted cod) which is a national dish here in Portugal and readily sold in all the supermarkets.
One of our outings takes us walking the 8 kilometres up the coast to the town of Caminha, another pilgrimage stop for us along the Portuguese Coastal Camino walk. We have a bit of rain as we start off but that soon cleared and it ended up a beautiful walk along the coast.
It was a fun filled , jam packed week. We gorged on coffee and pastries, had great evenings sitting together on our balcony, nibbling on wine and cheese with lots of laughs and fun. Here are some last photos of our special spot in Vila Praia de Ancora.
Thanks to the two of you; stay well and safe. Its ‘au revoir’, until we meet again❤️

Hi Jenny, it’s so nice to hear from you. Yes, we’re making the most of our time in Europe. How are you all? What’s happening with Femi and his study? Hope it’s still going to happen. Lots of love from us ❤️
